Bodycam video shows arrest of off-duty Washington state trooper after deadly DUI crash

Seattle, WALocal News

Newly released bodycam footage captures the arrest of off-duty Washington State Patrol Trooper Sarah Clasen, who has been charged with vehicular homicide after a tragic crash that resulted in the death of 20-year-old Jhoser Sanchez in Richland, Washington. The collision, which took place on March 1, involved Clasen driving her personal vehicle and allegedly being impaired at the time. Investigators noted signs of impairment, such as glossy eyes and slurred speech, shortly after the crash occurred. Clasen refused field sobriety tests, prompting officers to seek a warrant for a blood draw, the results of which are pending. The Benton County Prosecutors' Office has appointed the Spokane County Prosecutor's Office to handle the case due to Clasen's affiliation with law enforcement.

Audio from Clasen's 911 call reveals her acknowledgment of the severity of the situation, stating there was "definitely somebody injured" and a "possible fatality. " As the case progresses through the court system, Clasen remains out on bail, with her next court date yet to be determined. This incident raises significant concerns regarding public safety and the accountability of law enforcement officers.
