First county Crisis Care Center opening in Kirkland with plans for 1.25B network in place by 2030
King County is moving forward with its mental health initiative by launching its first crisis care center in Kirkland, part of a comprehensive $1. 25 billion program aimed at establishing five facilities by 2030. Managed by Connections Health Solutions, the Kirkland center opened its doors in August 2024 and is set to provide 24/7 mental health care services funded through a voter-approved county levy. This levy, which will cost homeowners an estimated $121 per year over nine years, is designed to enhance mental health resources across the county. The centers will offer diverse services, including urgent care, prescription refills, and extended treatment options, ensuring access for all residents regardless of their insurance status.
As the county embarks on selecting additional sites, it aims to finalize behavioral health organizations to operate the second and third centers by the end of 2025, with all five centers expected to be operational by 2030. Furthermore, King County has recently expanded its mobile crisis teams, with over 20 teams deployed to address behavioral health crises in real time. Residents can reach out for support by calling or texting 988 or the Regional Crisis Line. This initiative underscores King County's commitment to improving mental health services and accessibility for its community.
