Seattle, WALocal News

The Montlake Community Center has celebrated its reopening after a comprehensive 15-month, $1. 7 million construction project aimed at removing 60 documented barriers to accessibility. Key improvements included the addition of accessible parking stalls, enhanced pathways, and a revamped entrance for better access to the community center. Interior upgrades were also made to restrooms, multi-purpose rooms, and the kitchen, ensuring that all facilities meet modern accessibility standards. Located at 1618 E Calhoun, the center was closed for the duration of the construction, with alternative access arrangements made for nearby play areas and tennis courts.

An open house is set for March 14th, inviting community members to experience the newly accessible facility. This project is part of a larger construction initiative in Montlake, which includes the recent completion of the Montlake Lid and ongoing work on the Portage Bay Bridge and Roanoke Lid. These developments underscore the city's commitment to improving infrastructure and accessibility for all residents. The Montlake Community Center's reopening marks a significant milestone in enhancing community resources and fostering inclusivity.
