Meet the Film Commission Nominees

Seattle, WALocal News

The Seattle Film Commission was established to combat the decline of local film productions, which have been increasingly filmed in Vancouver, BC, rather than Seattle. Councilmember Sara Nelson led the initiative, advocating for the commission as a means to boost economic development and create job opportunities in the local creative community. The commission will serve as a bridge between the city and the film industry, focusing on increasing equity and supporting local creatives. Supporters like Macklemore have expressed enthusiasm for the commission, recognizing its potential to showcase Seattle's unique locations and foster emerging talent. The commission is set to include 11 members from various sectors of the film industry, ensuring diverse representation and expertise.

With the unanimous passing of Council Bill 126678, Seattle is taking significant steps to re-establish itself as a competitive filming location. By enhancing local film incentives and addressing industry needs, the commission aims to attract more filmmakers to the city. This initiative signals a renewed commitment to the arts and entertainment sector, promising a bright future for Seattle's film industry.
