Electric plane maker Eviation cuts most jobs, seeks new funding - Puget Sound Business Journal

Seattle, WALocal News

Eviation, a pioneer in electric aviation based in Arlington, has reportedly laid off most of its staff as it seeks funding to advance its nine-seat electric plane, Alice. The layoffs come at a crucial time, as the company had previously partnered with TLG Aerospace to transition its prototype into mass production. Despite having $5 billion in backlogged orders, Eviation's ambitions to commence deliveries by 2027 are hindered by the need for FAA certification. The company has undergone significant cutbacks since the 2023 partnership and has reshaped its leadership, appointing Andre Stein as CEO and Jeff Hurford as CFO to steer the company forward. Greg Davis, the former CEO, emphasized the strategic move to Arlington to access local talent and streamline supply chains.

The layoffs reflect broader challenges in the aerospace sector amid evolving market dynamics. As Eviation navigates these turbulent waters, the future of Alice remains uncertain yet promising, contingent on securing necessary funding and regulatory approvals. The situation highlights the complexities and risks associated with pioneering electric aviation technology.
