Auburn police arrest man accused of drive-by shooting that killed unintended victim

Seattle, WALocal News

Auburn police have arrested 29-year-old Francisco J. Gallegos Barbosa for his alleged role in a drive-by shooting that resulted in the death of an innocent bystander in 2024. The tragic incident unfolded on September 3, when officers found the 35-year-old victim suffering from a fatal gunshot wound during a welfare check. Investigators gathered compelling evidence, including shell casings, surveillance footage, and witness statements, which indicated that the shots were fired from a stolen white Toyota Highlander. Utilizing advanced forensic analysis and digital communications, detectives linked Barbosa to the crime, uncovering messages about the shooting and his knowledge of police pursuit.

Following a broader operation that led to multiple arrests on September 26, 2024, Barbosa was ultimately apprehended on February 5, 2025, with assistance from Valley SWAT. Currently facing charges of second-degree murder and unlawful possession of a firearm, he is being held in King County Jail with a substantial bail of $2 million. Barbosa's previous felony convictions, which include unlawful firearm possession and harassment, amplify the severity of his current legal challenges. The case highlights ongoing concerns about gun violence and the impact of criminal behavior on community safety.
