Seattle, WALocal News

The Burien Severe Weather Shelter is extending its hours to address the urgent need for warm accommodations as dangerously low temperatures approach. Currently operating at full capacity with 50 beds, the shelter has successfully served over 90 individuals in a span of three weeks, underscoring the pressing demand for assistance among the homeless community. Rev. Jenny Partch emphasizes that the shelter will not turn anyone away, reaffirming its commitment to providing safe refuge for all in need. Additionally, plans are underway to open a new shelter location in West Seattle, expanding support to more residents facing the harsh winter conditions.

The shelter is calling for community donations of essential items such as clothing, blankets, and food to meet the growing needs of its clients. Interested individuals can register online to volunteer and contribute to the shelter’s efforts. This initiative not only highlights the importance of community support but also showcases the collaborative spirit in addressing homelessness during extreme weather events. The ongoing efforts reflect the community’s dedication to ensuring that no one has to endure the cold without shelter.
