SDOT unveils first projects under historic 1.55 billion levy set to launch in 2025

Seattle, WALocal News

The Seattle Department of Transportation (SDOT) has announced its first projects under the historic $1. 55 billion transportation levy, which was approved by voters in November 2024. This levy is set to enhance the city’s infrastructure through the 2025 Levy Delivery Plan, focusing on safety improvements and community-driven projects. Among the initiatives, SDOT plans to initiate safety projects on high-injury corridors and construct new sidewalks to support pedestrian safety. Mayor Bruce Harrell noted that these investments will lead to tangible benefits for residents, improving their daily experiences.

SDOT Director Greg Spotts stated the importance of maintaining and modernizing roads and bridges while doubling the pace of sidewalk construction. The plan also includes collaboration with local agencies to expand safety measures such as Leading Pedestrian Intervals. With a commitment to transparency, SDOT will provide annual updates on the progress of the levy-funded projects. The complete 2025 Levy Delivery Plan is accessible on the SDOT website, providing detailed insights into the planned improvements.
