Firefighter injured after crews save pets from house fire near Lake Stevens

A firefighter from Snohomish Regional Fire & Rescue was injured while bravely rescuing pets from a house fire near Lake Stevens, Washington, on January 19, 2025. The fire began in the 1900 block of Vernon Road when a resident returned home to find smoke billowing from the garage but no flames visible. After attempting to air out the smoke, the resident went upstairs, where they spotted flames outside a window and promptly called 911. Following emergency instructions, the individual evacuated without their pets, leaving the rescue to the firefighters. Upon arrival, SRFR crews executed an aggressive attack on the fire, which they had under control by 7:08 p.

m. They successfully saved three cats and one dog trapped inside the home. Unfortunately, one firefighter sustained a rolled ankle during the operation and was subsequently transported for medical treatment. The cause of the fire is currently under investigation, highlighting the ongoing concern for fire safety in residential areas.
