Gov. Ferguson orders flags at full staff for Inauguration Day

Seattle, WALocal News

In a formal announcement, Governor Bob Ferguson of Washington State has directed that flags at the Capitol and various state facilities will be flown at full staff in recognition of Inauguration Day on January 20, 2025. This decision honors the inauguration of President-elect Donald Trump, a pivotal event in the political landscape. After the inauguration, flags will be lowered to half-staff at sunrise on January 21 and will remain at half-staff until January 29, in memory of former President Jimmy Carter, who recently passed away. The Governor's office noted that this period of half-staff honors Carter's legacy for 30 days, reflecting the state's respect for both current and former leaders. House Speaker Mike Johnson has also ordered flags at the U.

S. Capitol to fly at full staff for the same occasion. This alignment between state and national flag protocols underlines the significance of the inauguration as a moment of unity. The actions taken by both officials are seen as a demonstration of respect for the democratic process and the individuals who have shaped the nation. This directive is a noteworthy example of how state leadership acknowledges both the ceremonial aspects of governance and the solemnity of loss.
