In Renton, Washington, a notable spike in home burglaries has led the police department to issue a warning to residents. Between January 17 and 19, 2025, 11 burglaries were reported, highlighting a trend typically observed over a month. Meeghan Black, a public information officer, stated that burglars are targeting the backs of homes, utilizing methods such as breaking windows and slipping through unsecured doors. The thieves are primarily after high-value items, including jewelry and cash, with reports of entire safes being stolen. Renton residents have expressed concern, with one local recounting a past burglary attempt at her home.

In response to the increase in incidents, police recommend securing homes with locks and motion-sensor lights and encourage community vigilance against suspicious activities. Homeowners are also reminded to keep their automated alarm systems functional. Local police continue to investigate the burglaries and seek community support in reporting unusual behavior.
