Renton police warn residents to stay alert after spike in home burglaries

Seattle, WALocal News

Renton police are urging residents to stay vigilant due to a spike in home burglaries, with 11 homes targeted in a mere two-week period since January 17, 2025. Authorities have observed that burglars primarily break into homes through unsecured back doors and windows, often seeking high-value items like jewelry and cash. In some cases, thieves have even managed to steal entire safes, showcasing a boldness that has alarmed the community. Local resident Courtney Loukusa recounted her own experiences with attempted burglaries, highlighting the ongoing concerns about safety. In response to the recent uptick in crime, police are advising residents to enhance their home security measures, including locking all doors and windows, even while at home.

They also recommend collaborating with neighbors to share travel plans and keep an eye out for suspicious activities, such as unfamiliar vehicles in the area. The police have not yet confirmed whether the burglaries are linked but acknowledge similarities in several cases. As the investigation progresses, residents are encouraged to report any unusual activity to the authorities to help ensure community safety.
