Progress on Capitol Hill Light Rail Service Amid Testing for New 2 Line
Sound Transit will temporarily suspend Link light rail service between Capitol Hill and SoDo from 10 p. m. on January 17 through the end of service on January 19, 2025. This disruption is vital for conducting integrated safety tests, which include simulating over 100 emergency scenarios, crucial for the upcoming late 2025 opening of the new 2 Line. In response to the service suspension, shuttle buses will operate every 10-15 minutes, ensuring transportation for passengers between the affected stations.
The new Judkins Park Station, part of the Eastside expansion, has experienced significant delays due to construction challenges. Sound Transit is committed to enhancing rider experience, introducing a $3 flat fare, and eliminating the need to "tap off" at stations. Additionally, improvements are underway to modernize elevators and escalators at downtown stations. The 2 Line expansion is expected to greatly benefit commuters traveling between Seattle and the Eastside. This development is a significant step towards streamlining public transportation in the region.
