No light rail this weekend between Capitol Hill and SoDo as work continues to finally open Sound Transits 2 Line in 2025

Seattle, WALocal News

Sound Transit will suspend Link light rail service between Capitol Hill and SoDo from 10 p. m. on November 8 to November 10, 2024, as part of the ongoing efforts to connect the new 2 Line to the existing 1 Line. This temporary closure is crucial for commissioning a new signal house and communications system that will enable the integration of the light rail lines. During the suspension, Sound Transit will operate shuttle buses approximately every 10-15 minutes, ensuring that passengers can still travel between the affected stations.

This weekend's service interruption is a continuation of regular closures that have occurred during the lengthy construction process, with the 2 Line expected to open in 2025. Sound Transit also recently expanded service connecting Lynnwood to the existing 1 Line, further enhancing the light rail network. The project has faced costly delays, pushing back the opening of critical stations like Judkins Park. In addition to this expansion, Sound Transit has streamlined the fare system, introducing a new $3 flat fare and eliminating the need for riders to "tap off. " These changes reflect the agency's commitment to improving the overall rider experience as it moves forward with significant infrastructure projects.
