On December 31, 2024, a 29-year-old man was shot to death at the intersection of Broadway and Pike in Seattle's Capitol Hill neighborhood. Police were alerted to gunfire around 3 AM and found the victim across from a gas station, where CPR was performed but ultimately unsuccessful. Investigators are currently searching for three vehicles linked to the shooting: a silver Mercedes and two Dodge Chargers. This incident has intensified discussions about public safety in an area already identified as a law enforcement priority due to previous violent incidents. In response, Seattle Mayor Bruce Harrell emphasized the need for increased police presence in nightlife areas to reassure the public ahead of New Year celebrations.

This shooting marks the thirteenth homicide the East Precinct has handled in 2024, underscoring a worrying trend in crime. Additionally, video footage captured moments leading up to the shooting, showing the suspect hiding before opening fire on the victim. As the investigation unfolds, community members are left grappling with the implications of this violent act in a city striving for safety.
