Police say thief shot in chest trying to boost delivery van outside Pine apartment building

A harrowing early morning incident in Seattle saw a delivery driver shoot a thief attempting to steal his van outside Pine's PIVOT Apartments. The confrontation occurred around 4:45 AM when the driver found the suspect inside the vehicle, ready to flee. As the thief tried to escape, he struck the driver with the van, prompting the driver to pull out a handgun and open fire. Police later discovered the van parked near a downtown hotel, with the suspect bleeding from a gunshot wound to the chest and multiple bullet holes in the vehicle. Seattle Fire transported the suspect to Harborview Medical Center for treatment.

In a separate incident, a driver was arrested for felony hit and run after causing a crash that left several occupants injured. This driver had fled the scene but was identified after arriving at Swedish Cherry Hill Hospital with serious injuries. Both incidents highlight ongoing concerns about crime and safety in the Capitol Hill area.
