Seattle, WALocal News

Councilmember Joy Hollingsworth has been appointed chair of the Select Committee on the Comprehensive Plan for 2025, following the resignation of Councilmember Tammy Morales, effective January 6, 2025. In her statement, Hollingsworth stressed the urgent need for a comprehensive plan to tackle Seattle's affordability crisis, where nearly 45% of renters are financially burdened. She envisions a city that is affordable, equitable, and welcoming to all demographics, emphasizing the importance of stable housing for families and safe neighborhoods for children. With the median home price nearly seven times the median annual income, the urgency of this issue is clear. Hollingsworth expressed her commitment to collaborating with Mayor Harrell and the Office of Planning and Community Development to achieve these goals.

She also acknowledged Councilmember Morales's significant contributions to the discussion on affordability and equitable development, stating her intention to meet with Morales before her departure. The inaugural meeting of the Select Committee on the Comprehensive Plan will take place on January 6, 2025, marking a vital step towards addressing Seattle's ongoing housing challenges.
