Massive tree falls on car in Covington, trapping 2 people inside

On December 24, 2024, a massive tree fell on a car in Covington, Washington, trapping two people inside during a storm with wind gusts of 30 to 50 mph. The incident occurred around 8:30 p. m. near Cedar Valley Elementary School, illustrating the dangers of extreme weather. A good Samaritan attempted to help the victims before first responders arrived.

Firefighters from Puget Sound Fire built a crib box to stabilize the tree and used hydraulic jacks to lift it off the vehicle. They quickly freed one occupant, while it took over an hour to rescue the second person. Both victims suffered moderate injuries and were treated on-site before being transported to a hospital. This incident serves as a reminder of the risks posed by severe wind conditions during storms, showcasing the effective response of emergency services.
