** A wayward sea turtle wound up in the Netherlands. A rescue brought it thousands of miles back home

Seattle, WA** Local News

Boeier, an endangered Kemp's ridley sea turtle, was rescued in the Netherlands after becoming entangled in a fishing net, illustrating the challenges faced by marine wildlife. Found approximately 5,000 miles from its native Gulf of Mexico waters, Boeier was taken to the Rotterdam Zoo for medical treatment and rehabilitation. After recovery, the turtle was flown to Houston, Texas, where it underwent further medical tests and acclimatization. On November 4, Boeier was released back into the Gulf of Mexico, marking a significant milestone in conservation efforts for this vulnerable species. The Kemp's ridley is the smallest of all sea turtles and has been on the endangered species list since 1970.

This incident highlights the importance of international cooperation in marine wildlife conservation, as organizations like the U. S. National Fish and Wildlife Service work to give endangered species a chance at survival. Raising awareness and promoting conservation are crucial for protecting these magnificent creatures for future generations.
