Bob Fernandez, 100-year-old Pearl Harbor survivor, dies peacefully at home 83 years after bombing

Bob Fernandez, a 100-year-old survivor of the Pearl Harbor attack, passed away peacefully in California, surrounded by family. Just days before his death, he had to decline attending the 83rd anniversary remembrance ceremony due to his declining health. Serving as a sailor on the USS Curtiss during the attack, Fernandez witnessed the devastation first-hand and recalled rushing to prepare the ship's defenses upon seeing Japanese planes. His nephew noted that Fernandez's time had come, highlighting the impact he had on those around him. Known for his generosity, he actively contributed to his community, helping neighbors and sharing advice on living a fulfilling life.

He is survived by his son, granddaughter, and great-grandchildren, leaving behind a legacy of kindness and bravery. His passing reduces the number of known Pearl Harbor survivors to just 15.
