Seattle, WALocal News

The Montlake community is invited to celebrate the opening of a new bike and pedestrian bridge, part of the SR 520/Montlake Lid Project, this weekend. The bridge spans SR 520 and features a 73-foot-wide trail that connects seamlessly with popular routes like the Burke-Gilman Trail. The event will take place on December 14, 2024, starting at 11 a. m. , with early arrivals treated to hot cocoa and cookies, creating a festive atmosphere.

Cyclists can join the Cascade Bicycle Club's pre-ceremony ride at 10:15 a. m. , ensuring vibrant participation from the biking community. The bridge includes an overlook for picturesque views, enhancing the area's appeal for outdoor activities. Attendees will benefit from on-site bike mechanics available for minor repairs.

The event underscores the importance of connectivity and active transportation in the region, with nearly 15,000 plants incorporated into the design to provide a natural sound barrier against traffic noise.
