Play the lottery and skip the line for a chance to see the Supreme Court in action

Seattle, WALocal News

On December 12, 2024, the Supreme Court introduced an online lottery system to enhance public access to court sessions, particularly for high-profile cases. Starting in late February 2024, individuals can enter the lottery for a chance to secure up to four tickets to attend arguments or sessions where decisions are announced, allowing them to bypass the long lines that typically form days in advance. Although the exact number of seats available through the lottery has not been specified, the courtroom holds approximately 400 people, with some seating reserved for those willing to wait in line. The court reassured potential attendees that there will still be options for those who prefer to queue. Additionally, the Supreme Court continues to offer live audio of its arguments, a service that has remained in place since the pandemic.

This initiative aims to foster greater public engagement and accessibility to the judicial process while balancing traditional attendance with modern technological solutions.
