The Seattle Mariners have a new minor league affiliate team
The Seattle Mariners are set to change their Single-A affiliate in the California League, bringing in the Inland Empire 66ers starting in 2026. This transition follows the sale and relocation of the Mariners' current affiliate, the Modesto Nuts, to Diamond Baseball Holdings. The 66ers, who have been affiliated with the Los Angeles Angels since 2011, will play their final season with them in 2025. This change is part of a broader reorganization in the California League aimed at enhancing player development. The Mariners have historical ties to San Bernardino, having been affiliated with the area from 1987 to 1994 and again from 2001 to 2006.
This reunion not only reflects the Mariners' operational goals in player development but also highlights their connection to the region, including Ken Griffey Jr. 's iconic 1989 Upper Deck rookie card featuring him in a San Bernardino Spirit uniform. As the Mariners evolve their minor league structure, this strategic shift is seen as an opportunity to strengthen their player development pipeline.
