FDA Recalls Nearly 80,000 Pounds of Costco Butter Due to Labeling Issues

Seattle, WALocal News

In a significant food safety alert, the FDA has recalled nearly 80,000 pounds of Costco's Kirkland Signature butter due to labeling deficiencies. Both unsalted and salted butter products are affected, as they may not include the required 'Contains Milk' statement, posing a potential risk to individuals with milk allergies. The unsalted butter has lot codes with best-by dates extending into early 2025, while the salted butter is similarly affected. The recall, initiated on October 11, is classified as a Class II recall due to the undeclared allergen. Although there have been no reported allergic reactions linked to this issue, customers are advised to return the recalled butter to retailers for a refund to ensure their safety.

This incident underscores the critical role of food labeling in consumer protection and public health, emphasizing the need for manufacturers to prioritize compliance with food safety regulations.
