Greg Spotts, the Director of Transportation for Seattle, has announced his resignation effective February 12, 2025, after more than two years in the role. In his letter to Mayor Bruce Harrell, Spotts emphasized the importance of work-life balance and expressed gratitude for leading a team of 1,100 employees. Throughout his tenure, he faced significant challenges, particularly regarding pedestrian safety and rising traffic fatalities, leading to the implementation of the Vision Zero initiative aimed at eliminating traffic deaths by 2030. Spotts highlighted the passing of the Seattle Transportation Plan as a key achievement, establishing a framework for the city's transportation infrastructure over the next 20 years, which received unanimous support from the City Council following extensive public feedback. As he prepares to leave, Spotts remains optimistic about the future of SDOT and its ongoing work on road maintenance and modernization, marking a critical transition for Seattle's transportation leadership.
