Holiday Magic makes a difference for children in need

Seattle, WALocal News

The 'Holiday Magic' program, a collaboration between Treehouse and KIRO Newsradio, has been dedicated to supporting foster children in Washington state for over 35 years. It began with Carrie Krueger's realization that many children entering foster care arrive with very few personal belongings, often just a small bag. The program invites community members to buy gifts based on specific requests from foster children, emphasizing the importance of both wants and needs. Many requests are simple items like warm socks or jackets, yet they hold significant emotional weight for the children. The program’s success lies in its grassroots origins; it started as a simple idea without corporate backing, driven by a desire to make a difference.

Over the years, the initiative has facilitated the collection of countless gifts, creating a profound sense of community support. The handwritten wishes from children evoke strong emotional responses, illustrating the program's impact on both givers and receivers. As the holiday season approaches, 'Holiday Magic' reinforces the values of generosity and compassion, celebrating the spirit of giving.
