Gov. Jay Inslee points to Climate Act as a major success

Seattle, WALocal News

Governor Jay Inslee recently spoke on KIRO Newsradio about the Climate Commitment Act, which he considers a major success in Washington's climate change efforts. As the longest-serving governor in the U. S. , he emphasized the act's importance in creating a sustainable clean energy economy. Inslee acknowledged the challenges in communicating the act's details, particularly regarding its gas tax that holds polluters accountable while returning funds to residents.

He noted that despite initial concerns about rising gas prices, the public supported the act decisively, rejecting repeal efforts by a 62 to 38% margin. Throughout his tenure, he has also highlighted improvements in mental health services but recognizes that homelessness remains a critical issue. He attributed housing challenges to rapid population growth outpacing supply. As he prepares for his next chapter, Inslee expressed pride in Washington’s climate leadership and future potential, humorously sharing his aspiration to be a ballboy for the new Seattle Sonics.
