Local nonprofit hosts festive tree-planting fundraiser

Seattle, WALocal News

The Mountains to Sound Greenway Trust is hosting a tree-planting fundraiser from October 1 to December 3, aligning with Giving Tuesday, to encourage community involvement in environmental sustainability efforts. For every $25 donated, a tree will be planted in the donor's name, with contributions doubled through Carter Subaru's matching program. This initiative celebrates the Trust's significant milestone of planting one million trees and shrubs over three decades. The Greenway Trust is committed to protecting the natural and cultural resources of the Pacific Northwest, promoting a balance between urban development and environmental conservation. Trees offer numerous benefits, including improved air quality, reduced urban heat, and enhanced biodiversity, making their planting essential for combating climate change.

Additionally, the initiative recognizes the cultural significance of trees for Indigenous tribes, underscoring the importance of preserving these connections to the land. As urbanization and climate change effects become more pronounced, community participation in tree planting is increasingly vital. Interested individuals are encouraged to contribute to the fundraiser and attend the 2024 Annual Tree Planting Celebration on October 12 for hands-on learning about tree-planting techniques.
