One person rescued after boat catches fire in Elliott Bay

A private boater played a heroic role in rescuing an individual from Elliott Bay after their boat caught fire and exploded. The Coast Guard's reserve crew from Station Seattle responded swiftly to reports of flames near Duwamish Head Light, where a small pleasure boat was seen engulfed in fire. The dramatic scene was documented with photos showing the extensive flames that threatened the boat's integrity. Fortunately, the person onboard was able to jump into the cold water and escape harm. The Seattle Fire Department quickly dispatched three fireboats to the location, successfully extinguishing the fire within minutes.

Meanwhile, a nearby private vessel provided crucial assistance by warming the individual who had jumped overboard. Seattle Fire Department spokesperson Kaila Rafferty highlighted the vital role of alert witnesses who reported the fire promptly, allowing for a rapid response. This incident serves as a reminder of the importance of community vigilance and quick action in emergencies.
