Seattle native, former Mariners pitcher lands 2-year deal with Cubs

Seattle, WASports

In a strategic offseason move, the Chicago Cubs have signed Seattle native Matthew Boyd to a two-year contract worth $29 million, aimed at strengthening their pitching rotation. Boyd, a left-handed pitcher, is making a comeback after recovering from Tommy John surgery, which he successfully navigated during his time with the Cleveland Guardians. His contract includes a $5 million signing bonus, a $7. 5 million salary for the first year, and an option for a third year at $15 million, along with performance bonuses based on innings pitched. This signing is particularly significant for the Cubs, who have faced challenges in the NL Central, finishing second for the past two years.

Boyd's local ties and experience are expected to add considerable value as the team seeks to enhance its competitiveness for the 2025 season.
