With work underway, what the Capitol Hill Peoples Parking Lot development will look like
Construction has begun on the long-delayed Pine and Belmont mixed-use development in Capitol Hill, Seattle. The project will feature a six-story building with 108 residential units and 12,602 square feet of retail space on the ground floor, alongside below-grade parking for 108 vehicles. Originally proposed in 2007, the project faced significant delays due to the financial crisis and legal challenges from local activists. Developer Murray Franklyn has confirmed that the plans remain unchanged despite evolving market conditions. Local resident Seajake noted that construction is expected to start in the northeast corner of the lot and will likely take around 18 months to complete.
This development is a significant step toward revitalizing a previously vacant area that had become known as the People's Parking Lot. The project approval document also highlights community concerns raised during the planning process. The anticipated completion date is mid-2012, marking a hopeful return to development in the neighborhood.
