This week in CHS history Capitol Hill drugstore closures, Mtier debut, Jai Thai says goodbye
A community safety forum will occur on Capitol Hill on November 17, featuring city officials, including Natalie Walton-Anderson, the outgoing mayor's public safety chief. Sponsored by the GSBA chamber of commerce, the event comes amid escalating public safety concerns following several violent incidents, including the murders of two young men in recent months. Last year’s forum led to the approval of various safety initiatives, such as new Seattle Police Department surveillance cameras and the creation of a community safety coordinator role. This year's discussion will likely reflect the changes following Mayor Bruce Harrell's defeat, emphasizing urgent action to improve safety in the neighborhood. District 3 representative Joy Hollingsworth has introduced a five-point plan addressing the ongoing issues, building on initiatives sparked by past violence.
The forum will be moderated by Colleen Echohawk, CEO of Community Roots Housing, which is developing affordable housing in the area. The event will be held at Stoup Brewing Capitol Hill, with doors opening at 4 PM and the program starting at 5 PM. Light refreshments will be offered to attendees, who are encouraged to support community journalism through subscriptions.
