After complaints about homelessness and drugs, city planning changes at Capitol Hill parks including potential permanent fencing

Seattle, WALocal News

Seattle Parks and Recreation plans to reshape Capitol Hill's Seven Hills Park and Broadway Hill Park due to rising concerns over homelessness and drug-related activities. The public planning process will begin next week, inviting community members to discuss priorities and identify potential partnerships for park activation. Seven Hills Park has been closed since September, while Broadway Hill Park remains open yet under scrutiny for safety issues. Parks officials announced the initiative aims to enhance safety and inclusivity in neighborhood parks, addressing complaints through open dialogue. A separate meeting will also address challenges at Dr.

Blanche Lavizzo Park. This effort follows previous attempts to clear encampments in the area, reflecting a broader struggle with public safety issues throughout Seattle. Seven Hills Park, which opened in 2010, has a history of encampment challenges, while Broadway Hill Park was developed in 2016. The city continues to seek solutions to improve local parks amid ongoing concerns regarding crime and homelessness.
