Standard Goods clothing boutique opens in former Edge of the Circle space

Seattle, WALocal News

Jeffery Gardner launched Standard Goods, a new clothing boutique on Capitol Hill, after spending 15 years at Nordstrom and several years in the shoe purchasing business. The boutique, located at E Pike and Boylston, opened quietly last Friday, with Gardner choosing to promote it after the opening. Focused on casual and affordable fashion from sustainable American-made brands, Standard Goods features notable items like the Big Lebowski sweater from Pendleton. Gardner believes local shopping is vital, especially following the departure of Edge of Circle Bookshop, which had served the community for over 20 years. He noted that high buildout costs, averaging $150,000 per year, deterred him from considering newer retail developments.

As a small operation, Gardner plans to adapt his inventory based on community preferences. Standard Goods aims to fill a gap in Capitol Hill's indie retail scene, which has been sluggish. The boutique operates Monday through Saturday and offers clothing, shoes, and small gifts.
