Strategic closures Expect lots of light rail service disruptions in Seattle to end 2025
Sound Transit will begin strategic light rail service closures in Seattle on Nov. 8 to support important repairs and integrate the new 2 Line. The first suspension will occur between U District and Westlake until 2 p. m. for maintenance, with subsequent closures affecting service between Capitol Hill and Stadium on Nov.
16 due to a cracked rail. Additional early closures for expanded overnight maintenance will take place from Nov. 18-20 and Dec. 2-4, with bus replacements for affected trains. Late-night service suspensions are planned for Dec.
12-13, Dec. 20-21, and Dec. 27-28 to install advanced signaling in the Downtown Seattle Transit Tunnel. The ongoing work aims to prepare for the new 2 Line, which is expected to open in 2026. Seattle leaders face economic challenges that may impact key transit expansions in West Seattle and Ballard, scheduled for 2032 and 2039, respectively.
