One to hospital in 14th Ave E apartment building fire UPDATE

Seattle, WALocal News

One person was hospitalized after a fire broke out in the Capitol Park apartment building in Seattle on Sunday. The Seattle Fire Department (SFD) responded to reports of smoke and flames on the ninth floor just before 5 PM and extinguished the fire within 30 minutes. Officers from the Seattle Police Department (SPD) rescued a 47-year-old woman from the unit, where they found her confused and disoriented due to heavy smoke. Following the incident, SFD recommended a temporary evacuation of the upper floors but later deemed the building safe for residents to return. In a separate incident, a dumpster fire near Neighbours led to an evacuation but caused no injuries.

The SFD is currently investigating the cause of the apartment fire, which has raised concerns among local residents. Community organizations are also addressing broader issues regarding police leadership in the area, reflecting ongoing tensions in Capitol Hill. This incident highlights the importance of emergency response in urban settings and community safety.
