This new 4-way stop is not a rogue project of the Capitol Hill Department of Transportation
The Seattle Department of Transportation (SDOT) has permanently installed a 4-way stop at the intersection of 21st and John, following a temporary removal due to miscommunication with the Seattle Police Department. This traffic improvement is part of the Safe Routes to School program, which enhances safety around schools like Meany Middle School and Lowell Elementary. The intersection has recorded 20 significant collisions over the past decade, with seven involving injuries, underscoring the need for better traffic control. In related news, King County's Sharyn Grayson House is set to welcome its first residents, providing supportive housing for marginalized groups experiencing chronic homelessness. This building, named after a transgender advocate, reflects the county's commitment to addressing homelessness through the Health Through Housing initiative.
The Capitol Hill area is witnessing increased investments in supportive housing, including a new 120-unit facility by the Downtown Emergency Service Center. County officials are also working to alleviate concerns regarding a planned $56 million Broadway Crisis Care Center with a "Good Neighbor Policy. " SDOT is optimistic that unofficial projects may lead to more permanent changes based on collected data.
