The Central District experienced another tragic incident when 15-year-old Soloman Taylor was shot and killed on Monday night. Authorities confirmed he died from a gunshot wound to the torso after multiple 911 calls reported gunfire near 27th and Spring. Seattle Police are investigating the case and have asked for public assistance, but no arrests have been made. Taylor, who was assigned to Garfield High School but not currently enrolled, is the second teenager connected to the school to fall victim to gun violence this year. Following a deadly shooting last June, Seattle officials, led by Mayor Bruce Harrell, introduced a $14.

5 million plan aimed at intervention and mental health services in schools. This plan includes increased security measures, such as hiring private safety specialists. The city's 53rd murder of 2024 raises alarms as Seattle approaches last year's total of 74. Gun violence remains a pressing issue in the Central District and Capitol Hill, with police actively investigating related incidents.
