Capitol Hills Northwest School part of 4.7M in Seattle building decarbonization grants
Seattle has announced $4. 7 million in Building Decarbonization Grants for 2025, supporting initiatives aimed at reducing climate pollution. Capitol Hill’s Northwest School will receive $31,000 to design retrofits for two of its buildings, enhancing their sustainability. Other recipients include the Seattle Art Museum, awarded $44,475 for an electrification feasibility study, and Community Roots Housing, which secured $1,149,500 for installing heat pumps and electric stoves. The Seattle Office of Sustainability & Environment oversees the grants through its Building Emissions Navigator program, which also offers free technical support for larger buildings.
A pilot grant program in 2024 laid the groundwork for this funding initiative. The city’s proposed budget includes plans for further grants in 2026. This effort aligns with broader climate goals and policies aimed at reducing emissions. The initiative underscores the city's commitment to transitioning to cleaner energy solutions.
