Medgar Evers Pool the public swimming pool serving the Central District and Capitol Hill set for 8-week, 1.4M overhaul
Medgar Evers Pool in Seattle will close on November 9, 2025, for an extensive $1. 4 million renovation aimed at enhancing accessibility and updating facilities. The Seattle Parks Department plans significant upgrades, including HVAC replacement and locker room overhauls, to improve the experience for users. Built in 1969, the pool has a history of structural issues, evidenced by a closure in 2022 for mechanical repairs and a year-long renovation in 2019 due to unforeseen deterioration. During the closure, swimmers will be directed to alternative facilities, including Evans Pool and Rainier Beach Pool.
This renovation coincides with the $9. 5 million Garfield Superblock project, which aims to revitalize the area around Garfield High School with new community spaces. The planned reopening date for the pool is January 5, 2026, after an eight-week closure for upgrades. The pool serves as a vital resource for exercise, lessons, and community events in the region. Community members can track construction updates on the Seattle Parks website.
