SPD responds to Capitol Hill demonstration at local tech company CEOs residence
Seattle police intervened in a protest last Thursday night outside a tech CEO's residence in North Capitol Hill, where demonstrators opposed his business dealings with the Israeli government. Protesters blocked the street with vehicles, vandalized property, and threw red glitter and Lime scooters at the home. The protest coincided with Yom Kippur, which led the targeted family to express feelings of being specifically targeted due to their Jewish background. In a related demonstration, about 200 people gathered at Cal Anderson Park, while a separate vehicle brigade drove through downtown, briefly halting traffic. Although the protests were disruptive, the Seattle Police Department reported no arrests were made.
These actions align with a broader trend of protests in Seattle that have included targeting other tech executives linked to Israel. Recent events suggest escalating tensions within the community regarding the ongoing conflict in Gaza. As the situation develops, local authorities may need to address the rising frequency of such protests.
