With 8-story Constellation Center affordable development underway on Capitol Hill, Community Roots Housing names new CEO
Community Roots Housing appointed Colleen Echohawk as its new CEO, effective at the end of October, succeeding Chris Persons. Echohawk, an advocate for Seattle’s Native and underserved communities, previously led the Chief Seattle Club and ran for mayor in 2021. Her leadership coincides with major projects, including the eight-story Constellation Center and the Copperleaf Northgate development, which will provide 232 affordable apartments near the Northgate light rail station. Community Roots has actively modernized its portfolio by divesting from older properties while focusing on new developments. Persons, who has guided the organization since 2007, is retiring after nearly two decades of leadership.
Echohawk's appointment highlights the organization’s commitment to affordable housing and community support. The organization also recently opened Pride Place, providing services for LGBTQIA+ seniors. Community Roots continues to collaborate with various partners to enhance housing and educational opportunities in Seattle.
