Middle College High School comes to Capitol Hill

Seattle, WALocal News

Middle College High School (MCHS) will relocate to Seattle Central’s campus for the 2025-2026 school year, offering a tuition-free college education to high school students. The school focuses on supporting first-generation college students and those impacted by systemic racism and poverty. In the first two years, students earn high school credits, while in their final two years, they can enroll in Seattle College’s Running Start program to gain college credits. Principal Keven Wynkoop emphasizes the importance of proximity to the college and the on-campus support provided by MCHS. The school fosters relationships with college advisors to enhance student success.

MCHS aims to provide a quieter and more focused high school experience compared to traditional large schools. This move seeks to restore connections with local middle schools that previously contributed to student enrollment. Last year's temporary relocation to Rainier Beach affected MCHS's enrollment, making this return significant for rebuilding community ties.
