A third generation of owners at Capitol Hill cocktail classic Tavern Law

Seattle, WALocal News

Tavern Law, a Capitol Hill cocktail bar, has transitioned to new ownership under Saulo Cruz and Kenneth Jones, who aim to preserve its legacy while introducing improvements. The pair quickly eliminated the 20% mandatory gratuity and 3% credit card surcharge, resulting in an average tip of 21% during their first week. They retained existing staff and enhanced benefits, adding dental and vision coverage to existing health plans. Cruz, with previous experience at La Fontana, plans to elevate the food program with weekly specials and expand the wine selection beyond the current red or white options. Veteran manager Nathaniel Steinberg remains in charge of operations, assisting with the ownership transition.

Cruz emphasized the importance of hospitality, stating that welcoming service can make patrons more forgiving of any mistakes. The tavern is also undergoing exterior renovations while maintaining normal operations inside. As Tavern Law approaches its 20th anniversary, the new owners are committed to ensuring it remains a staple in the community.
