Last beer on earth Outer Planet Brewing marks last days in Capitol Hills shrinking craft beer universe

Seattle, WALocal News

Outer Planet Brewing will close its doors on September 20, 2025, due to unmanageable costs in Seattle's Capitol Hill. Co-owner Gabriel Villenave highlighted the struggle of smaller breweries amidst an industry trend toward consolidation among larger brands. After attempting to find a buyer for the nano-brewery, Villenave noted that no serious offers materialized, leading to the decision to sell off its brewing equipment. This closure marks the second brewery shutdown in Capitol Hill this year, following the June closure of Redhook microbrewery. Despite these challenges, Stoup Brewing has taken over an Optimism beer hall, and Elysian Brewing plans to enhance its Capitol Hill location following a recent investment.

Villenave expressed mixed feelings about the closure, emphasizing the community space the brewery fostered over the years. Outer Planet will celebrate its legacy with a closing party, inviting patrons to commemorate its decade of service. The brewery's farewell underscores the evolving landscape of craft brewing in Seattle.
