Reminder Speak now or forever hold your peace on Seattles 20-year growth plan

Seattle, WALocal News

Seattle City Council will conduct public comment sessions on Friday regarding a proposed 20-year growth plan aimed at distributing housing development more equitably across the city. The sessions will be led by Joy Hollingsworth, the District 3 representative and chair of the comprehensive plan committee. Remote comments will be accepted starting at 9:30 a. m. , with in-person comments commencing at 3:00 p.

m. Nearly 70% of expected new construction will be confined to "Regional Centers," which include high-density areas such as Downtown and Capitol Hill. Despite the plan's intent, revisions have reduced density in several neighborhoods due to pushback from wealthier residents. The planning process has spanned two years and coincided with rising housing affordability and homelessness issues in Seattle. Residents can access further details about the proposals and legislative process on the Seattle city website.

The outcome of this plan could significantly impact housing equity in Seattle.
