New Cal Anderson Emergency Hub launches teaching Urban Survival Skills including water sterilization and Narcan administration to help Capitol Hills core neighborhoods

Seattle, WALocal News

Capitol Hill's Cal Anderson Emergency Hub will host an Urban Survival Skills Fair on September 7, targeting disaster preparedness for local residents in high-density neighborhoods. The fair will feature 14 hands-on stations, including training on Narcan administration and water sterilization, to equip attendees with vital survival skills. Heather Currey, the hub's captain, highlights the role of emergency hubs in fostering community connections during crises, particularly when communication is challenging. With over a dozen volunteers already engaged, the hub is working with city agencies to secure grants and navigate bureaucratic hurdles. Currey aims to tailor emergency plans for renters with limited living space, emphasizing the need for innovative solutions.

The hub also plans to collaborate with local organizations, such as Seattle Central College, to provide shelter during emergencies. The event aims to enhance community resilience and preparedness in light of increasing natural disasters. Currey invites residents to participate, regardless of their skill levels, to contribute to a robust support network.
