King County faces summertime surge in COVID-19 cases with hospitalizations on the rise

Seattle, WALocal News

King County faces a notable rise in COVID-19 cases this summer, with hospitalizations reaching 111 as of the week of August 10. Public Health Chief Dr. Eric Chow cautions that the virus continues to pose a serious threat, especially to vulnerable populations. The increase is attributed to new variants and the behaviors of individuals during the warmer months. County data reveals that nearly 19% of residents have received at least one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine.

However, Dr. Chow notes that access to updated vaccines is limited during this transitional period. He emphasizes the importance of remaining vigilant, especially for those with pre-existing health conditions. Residents are encouraged to keep up with vaccinations and consider additional protective measures, such as wearing well-fitted masks and improving ventilation. This surge underscores the need for ongoing public health efforts and individual responsibility in managing respiratory illnesses.
