Spruce Street School plans a $7 million renovation for its new First Hill campus, targeting completion by 2028. The private institution, serving about 110 K-5th graders at an annual cost of $35,000, purchased the property in 2019 for $15. 15 million as part of its long-term vision. The renovation will feature a 20,000-square-foot classroom building, a rooftop outdoor play area, and an underground parking facility to enhance student experience. The school aims to be the highest quality and most financially accessible K-5 independent school in the Seattle area by 2035.

Its strategic location offers logistical advantages, including ample parking and excellent transit connections, vital for maintaining an urban community. The partnership with Seattle Academy allows for continued use of classrooms, creating a collaborative educational environment. This development reflects a broader trend of expanding private education options in Seattle, countering challenges faced by public schools, including declining enrollment. The project aligns with ongoing urban development in First Hill, which has seen significant changes, including the introduction of the RapidRide G bus line.
