A visit to Haunted Burrow Books, Capitol Hills horror and dark fantasy book shop

Seattle, WALocal News

Haunted Burrow Books has opened on Capitol Hill's 15th Ave E, specializing in horror and dark fantasy literature. Owner Roxanne Guiney previously operated through online sales and flea markets before launching this temporary bookstore. The opening coincided with a power outage, creating a fittingly eerie ambiance for a tarot card reading group. The store faces challenges from neighborhood redevelopment, as Hunters Capital plans a six-story building following city approval. Guiney remains optimistic, hosting various events like book clubs and art showcases to foster community engagement.

The bookstore's unique offerings and events cater to niche interests, making it a cultural touchstone amid change. Local businesses, including the art cafe LOVECITYLOVE and a new barbershop, are also adapting to the shifting landscape. Haunted Burrow aims to provide a haven for fans of moody genres while navigating the uncertainty of Capitol Hill's future.
